Our Mission: To Enhance Downtown Manistee
The Facade Grant Initiative
The Facade Grant offers financial assistance for exterior renovations of commercial properties. This program aims to help property owners enhance their buildings’ appearance, contributing to the community’s overall vitality and attractiveness.
In 2023, the DDA applied to Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) for a renewed Facade Restoration Initiative grant. MEDC awarded Manistee DDA $150,000, matching the DDA’s $50,000 budget line in the 2024 Fiscal Year. Five projects have be funded in 2024 using these funds.
The application period for 2025 Facade Grants is closed.

Streetscape Project
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA), in partnership with the City of Manistee, is actively pursuing the Streetscape Plan Initiative. In 2023, the DDA initiated a competitive bid process resulting in the selection of Fleis and Vanderbrink to develop a comprehensive Streetscape Plan. This effort aims to enhance the future conditions of River Street and its surrounding amenities.
Riverwalk Project
The Manistee Riverwalk is a key attraction that draws visitors and residents to downtown Manistee, providing a unique community amenity. In partnership with the City of Manistee, the Downtown Development Authority is committed to enhancing the Riverwalk. In 2022, the City of Manistee, with support from the Manistee Downtown Development Authority, was awarded $850,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce to improve the Riverwalk’s accessibility and walkability. These improvements are currently out for bid and are expected to be completed within the next year.
