The Redevelopment Committee’s purpose is to lead and promote the development of under-utilized buildings and spaces in the downtown core. The Committee aims to achieve this by identifying and prioritizing redevelopment sites with the district and to develop strategies needed to accomplish redevelopment, working with property owners to rehabilitate their properties and utilize vacant second or third stories, and developing programs to assist property owners in rehabilitation.
The Business Development Committee focuses on increasing business occupancy in existing buildings and retain or expand current businesses. Currently, the Committee is working on developing a business attraction strategy, retention strategies, identifying ways to support entrepreneurialism, and increasing the percentage of retail, restaurants, and entertainment businesses within the DDA district.
The objective of the Design Committee is to continue to improve the physical aesthetics and leverage the historic character of the downtown area. Recently, the City of Manistee has taken on a contract to provide maintenance to the district. The Committee also works to identify public areas in the district that could be improved or created to activate public spaces. The Design Committee also manages the Facade Grant Program.
